Streaming
Quality and Connection Speed
The quality of streaming media on the
Internet can vary greatly depending on several factors, including
overall Internet traffic and the speed of your own connection
to the Internet. Variations in video quality are to be expected,
but you can do some things to help ensure the best possible
performance. Before playing a movie on the MysteryPie site,
you must correctly select your connection speed from the "Select
Media Preference" page that appears after you click "watch
video." The higher your Internet connection speed, the
better your viewing experience will be. High-speed connections
such as DSL & cable are becoming more easily available and
will greatly improve the quality of the video stream.
High
bandwidth: If you are accessing the Internet with a T1 connection,
DSL or cable modem, select the "DSL connection" option.
These selections offer the best viewing quality.
Lower
bandwidth: If you have a lower bandwidth dial-up modem or ISDN
connection, or are not sure, select the "56k connection"
option. These files have been processed to produce the best
video quality that your connection can offer.
Troubleshooting:
"Buffering"
When Internet traffic is high, streaming
video can buffer, pause, hiss, or skip when the connection becomes
too thin to consistently support the stream. These degradations
in quality depend on a number of factors, including Internet
traffic congestion, and your own bandwidth. Try playing the
video again (or at another time of day), or try selecting a
lower connection speed.
Troubleshooting:
Poor image quality
Our video shows up in the color resolution
your system is set to display. Playback quality can also be
affected by connection rate and Internet congestion. To improve
the video image quality, you can set your monitor to 16-bit
(thousands) or 24-bit (millions) color. Also:
Close other unnecessary applications that
may be open on your computer.
Update your computer's video driver regularly.
Do not use the "Zoom" button on lower bandwidth clips.
Make sure you are choosing the appropriate speed to play the
clip based on your bandwidth. (See selecting a connection speed.)
Increasing video screen size
If you have a higher-performance computer, you can increase
the screen size on your video player. After you click your bandwidth
option, and you see the media player window pop up, click on
"Display Media Player" at the very bottom of that
screen. Once the Media Player is displayed, you can right-click
on the video screen and select the "Zoom" or "Full
Screen" options. Please note however, that if you have
lower bandwidth this may decrease the quality of your stream.
